Quantiacs was a sponsor of Caltech’s Hackathon and offered a Boosted board for the best fintech hack. Kevin Yeng from Waterloo University build a tool for sentiment analysis. His script measures the notion of news articles for certain fields (e.g. technology) and returns a score of how positive or negative the article was.

Our Quant Timeroot won the Q2 Competition and got an initial investment of $1M in his system getSwoleLoker5. He submitted it with a backtest SR of 2.12. In the live period it achieved a SR of 1.95, which was the best of all scores and got him an initial investment of $1,000,000. We are trading Timeroot’s system now for six weeks. Within that period he made $4,000 in performance fees (= 50% of the performance fees). We met with Timeroot to ask him a few questions about his background and how he got started with Quantiacs.
